How to provide remote support for friends and family

How to provide remote support for friends and family
I think if you read this and you are a regular Android Central that you're techie enough. You have probably also been called more times than you can count to help solve a kind of (real or imaginary) tech crisis for friends and family. For many like us, the deluge of calls and texts is generally centered around the holidays, but now we are all about working from home and cloistered, you may have been a slight increase in demand recently.

Here are some tips, tricks, and tools that I use to not only write my articles but to help my friends and family when they ask (just do not remember them, right?).
Having the customer support in the past, I can tell you that it can be infuriating to try to diagnose a problem by phone or text. Honestly, though, it is equally frustrating for the person who needs help only for the person who gives. Hands down the best way to diagnose and resolve family technology problems (except actually being there with them) are on a video call.
It does not really matter what platform you use, but I recommend one of the best consumer applications cross-platform like Google Duo, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp. Chances are your friends and family already have these applications on their phones and are familiar with them, so why complicate things with a new application? Oh, and if you have a Mac, iPad, or iPhone laying around, do not forget FaceTime. It is one of the default video call applications, and chances are at least some of your friends and family use only.
Many of these common applications have screen sharing functionality and the ability to switch between cameras front and rear-facing so you can see what your loved one is the problem and Discuss how to repair. You can also use most of these applications on the web or via your phone. Finally, you can group of 8-12 (or more) people across these applications, so if your grandmother both and uncle have problems, you can (try) to talk them through the same time.
Screen recording is a great way to walk your beloved by their problem or show them how to do something on their way step by step device they can watch and rewatch, the content of their heart.

Technically, screen recording was integrated into Android from Android 7 Nougat, but it was buried and you could access via ADB commands (it was also on iOS since iOS 11). This is supposed to finally come to the whole system with Android 11, but we can wait on that a little more.

You can also download a third screen recorder as AZ if your phone does not support this functionality natively. Make sure to always use caution because some third-party registration applications have been known to be potential vectors for malicious and bad actors.
