5 ways virtual and augmented reality is changing our lives

 Flood investments into new tools continue to trigger the market, which will grow substantially in the coming years. AR and VR will have an impact on the world around us in a number of interesting and useful ways. Here are five things that are waiting for:

1.) Involve entertainment. If ever there is a natural application for AR and VR, this is a world of media and entertainment. Augmented and virtual reality allow designers to create interesting entertainment levels with the potential for a more intimate and emotional experience.

For evidence that VR actually arrived as the next-generation storytelling platform, look no further than the latest Sundance Film Festival. As part of the new Frontier Showcase, this festival displays more than 30 VR experiences, including Caravating Cinematic Works and VR installations.

That's why my company Autodesk has developed a 3D Stingray game machine and real-time rendering software, which simplifies the process of making games for artists and developers, helping them easier to create a charming world.  It was built using a very realistic unreal engine, and interesting 3D content made with our 3D 3D animation software - 3DS MAX and MADA.

2.) Better buildings. The same technology that transforms media and entertainment is also regulated to make an impact on the environment built. Stingray machine, for example, not just for games. As a real-time rendering machine, Stingray can also be very valuable in building design, helping professionals better visualize their projects, simulate their designs to suggest how they will work if they are built and operate, and present their ideas to clients.


Users can retrieve rich data from building information models (BIM) and send it to the VR application. As a result, instead of seeing building design on a 2D screen, users can pass it as if they are there and experience various aspects of high-quality designs. It not only lets designers better communicate their ideas and intentions to clients, also ensuring that buildings are more suitable for client's expectations and requirements.

3.) Cars designed carefully. A number of designers in the automotive industry still use clay modeling to help understand what the final product is. But what if you can experience a new car design on a full scale, not a small scale clay model?


That's exactly the Ar and VR environment that can be done. All small elements of good car design - for example ergonomic details such as how far the driver must extend his arm to reach the dashboard - it can be experienced much more accurate when the designer feels as if they really sit in the car rather than seeing it as a 2D image on a desktop screen.


Autodesk has done several significant exploration in this field with products called Vred, visualization software that helps automotive designers and engineers make product presentations, design reviews, and building virtual prototypes.

Vred can work together with spatial AR to project 3D information to various designs. If you have a car clay model, or maybe a foam car made, you can project various materials or design configurations on it - give many people in the room the ability to see different design options. Volvo and Volkswagen have done some interesting jobs in this area. Vred also now works with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR Mounted Displays (HMDS).
